PENDRAGON ist eine der führenden englischen Neo-Prog Bands.1978 wurden sie als "Zeus Pendragon" von Gitarrist und Sänger Nick Barrett gegründet.
Das "Zeus" wurde fallen gelassen und der Bandname sinnvoll auf "Pendragon" gekürzt.
Es gab einige Personalwechsel, seit 1986 ist das Lineup stabil.
Nur der langjährige Drummer Fudge Smith verließ 2006 die Band.
Im 80er Progressive Rock - Revival spielten sie neben Marillion, Pallas, Solstice und IQ eine große Rolle.
Ein ähnlichen Erfolg wie Marillion gelang ihnen trotz den kommerziell ausgerichteten Alben The Jewel (1985) und Kowtow (1988) nicht.
The World (1991) schlug jedoch in der aufkeimen Progszene der 90er voll ein.
Die Nachfolgealben gelten alle als Meisterstücke, wobei The Masquerade Overture (1996) ihre beliebteste Scheibe sein dürfte.
Mit ihrem 2005er Album "Believe" änderten sie etwas ihre Stilrichtung, reduzierten symphonische Elemente und süßliche Melodien.
Flächige Sounds und Metal-Einflüsse bestimmen zunehmend das Klangbild von Pendragon.
