YES U.S. SUMMER TOUR 2014

Throughout 2013, the iconic and Grammy-winning rock band YES marked a career first by performing a triple-header concert featuring three of their classic albums in their entirety, all in one concert.

For 2014, the band is back to rock crowds nationwide with an amazing show. The 35-date summer tour will feature YES performing–in their entirety–1971’s groundbreaking album FRAGILE for the first-time ever and a repeat performance from last year’s tour of 1972’s CLOSE TO THE EDGE, followed by an encore of the band’s greatest hits and material off their new studio album, Heaven and Earth, which is due on July 8.

Kicking off July 8 in Boston, the tour will then stop at New York City’s Radio City Music Hall July 10 before making its way throughout the Northeast, hitting Wallingford, CT, Westbury, NY, Newport, RI, Washington, DC, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and more. Among their many tour stops, YES will perform in Detroit, Madison, Chicago, Nashville, Louisville, Atlanta, St. Petersburg, Orlando, Houston, Dallas, Denver, Phoenix, Las Vegas, San Diego and San Jose before wrapping August 24 at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles. During the encore on the upcoming tour, the multi-platinum progressive rock band–bassist CHRIS SQUIRE, guitarist STEVE HOWE, drummer ALAN WHITE, keyboardist GEOFF DOWNES and singer JON DAVISON—will also perform material off HEAVEN AND EARTH, their new studio album, out July 8.

The album FRAGILE is considered to be their U.S. breakthrough album peaking at #4 on the Billboard Album charts in the U.S. The RIAA-certified double platinum album has sold over two million copies and features YES’ hit single “Roundabout” and other classics like “Long Distance Runaround” and “Heart of the Sunrise.” It also marks the band’s first collaboration with artist Roger Dean on cover art, who has designed many of the band’s album covers and logos. The band’s album CLOSE TO THE EDGE—widely regarded as one of the greatest progressive rock albums ever recorded—was on the U.S. charts for 32 weeks, peaking at #3. A Rolling Stone review noted, “Yes’ colors are subtle, almost imperceptible tints, but the main strokes are bold and thick, applied with sureness and natural instinct.” Inspired by Siddhartha and their “state of mind” at the time, the Gold-certified album featuring epic suites such as “Close To The Edge” and “You And I” was named one of the “100 Greatest Guitar Albums of All Time” by Guitar World (2006). Gesanglich gesehen habe ich live keine großen Erwartungen. Das liegt aber nicht an J. Davison, der seine Sache sehr gut macht sondern, wie ich finde, an der Undiszipliniertheit der Zweitstimmen, besonders der von C. Squire - da graust es mir jetzt schon. (sehr schlechtes Timing, tonal oft daneben). Hier wird YES dem eigentlichen Anspruch auch gerade von Squire nicht gerecht, der die Band bezüglich Harmoniegesang ja entsprechend hoch eingestuft. Das war und ist ja eines der "Markenzeichen" von YES. Die Studioaufnahmen werden dem auch absolut gerecht - für mich auch ohne Anderson mit der schönen Stimme von B. David (abgesehen von seinem gesundheitlichen Handicap der letzten Tour..) und wohl auch mit J. Davison.
Künstler, die live performen, sind für mich aber nur gut, wenn sie das auch live möglichst perfekt hinbekommen = DER Gradmesser.
Ansonsten könnten sie auch meinetwegen konsequent nur Studioalben herausbringen, was auch kein Problem wäre. C. Squire kann es live eigentlich gut, lässt aber den Schlendrian raus und gibt sich oft wohl wenig Mühe oder er kann es nicht mehr. Na ja - instrumental sind sie auch live allererste Güte, was vieles wieder aufwiegt. Wäre das nicht so, würde ich wohl keinen Cent mehr in die Tickets investieren und bin weiterhin Fan aber deutlich kein Freak. Sorry, musste mal wieder mosern... :ohman:

Dazu hat sich Howe schon geäußert. "Five Per Cent For Nothing" fällt ja nicht so ins Gewicht, aber man würde es wohl eher hinbekommen
als "Cans and Brahms". An Letzterem hat sich Downes wohl schon "versucht", die Parts sind kein Problem, eher der Sound, den Rick
damals dafür lieferte. Interessanter hätte ich jetzt gefunden statt "CTTE" noch Drama ins Programm zu nehmen, welches ja von
allen Bandmitgliedern mit favorisiert wurde. Da das neue Album aber eher kürzere Stücke hat, würde es dann ein Konzert ohne ein ganz
langes Stück werden, was für viele Fans eine gewisse Enttäuschung hervorrufen würde. Für mich wäre das aber interessant.

Hm, vor vielen Jahren gab es ja mal eine Yes-Tour namens "Masterworks", wo fast ausschließlich Longtracks gespielt wurden, das war wohl die Tour mit der höchsten Dichte an aufeinanderfolgenden Longtracks seit der "Tales"-Tour.
Da wäre ja mal eine Yes-Tour namens "The Shorties" nicht verkehrt, zumal es dies in der Yes-Tour-Historie tatsächlich noch nie gegeben hat. Selbst bei den Tourneen zu 90125, "Big Generator" und "Talk" war immer mindestens ein Longtrack dabei.

Die "Masterworks"-Tour fand im Sommer 2000 im Anschluss an die "Ladder"-Tour statt. Yes in der Besetzung Anderson/Howe/Khoroshev/Squire/White (Billy Sherwood war zu dem Zeitpunkt bereits ausgestiegen) spielten bei dieser Tournee (abgeshen von den Zugaben "All Good People" und "Roundabout) ausschließlich Longtracks aus den 70ern. Ab dieser Tour tauchten auch "Ritual" und "Gates Of Delirium" nach langer Pause wieder im Live-Repertoire auf, die sie zuletzt 1976 komplett gespielt hatten. Allerdings spielten Yes diese "Masterworks"-Tour ausschließlich in den USA.
