Two Live Collections Debut Newly Discovered Recordings From The Prog-Rock Pioneer s Acclaimed 1972 World Tour

Featuring previously unreleased music included on these newly discovered tapes. HIGHLIGHTS FROM SEVENTY-TWO includes 90 minutes of live recordings selected from various shows.

Progeny: Seven Shows from Seventy-Two (Atlantic Catalog Group) is a forthcoming 14-disc box set containing 7 complete shows from late 1972, i.e. the Close to the Edge tour, with Anderson, Squire, Howe, White and Wakeman. The album is due 19 May 2015 in the US and possibly earlier in Japan. The box also features extensive new art by Roger Dean. Full contents have not yet been announced. The Amazon blurb for the release says that: "The band recently discovered recordings of seven complete concerts from the weeks leading up to the shows heard on Yessongs." Two shows are known: the 31 Oct Maple Leaf Gardens, Toronto and 1 Nov Ottawa performances; set: "Intro: Firebird Suite", "Siberian Khatru", "I've Seen All Good People", "Mood for a Day", "Clap", "And You and I", "Heart of the Sunrise", "Close to the Edge", Wakeman solo, "Roundabout", "Yours is No Disgrace". An image on Amazon suggests the other 5 shows post-date 1 Nov. Speculation turns to 4 Nov Columbus, OH, 11 Nov Durham, NC and 14 Nov Atlanta, GA that are also believed to have been recorded (two of those may possibly be the sources of parts of Yessongs).

Having first been listed on Amazon.com on 27 Feb, by 28 Feb, the album was already #79 in all albums there (#1 in Psychedelic Rock; #6 in Classic Rock).

Released at the same time and available as a 2CD or 180g 3LP, Highlights from Seventy-Two is a 90-minutes selection from Progeny.

It appears that further archival live releases (from other tours) may be planned.

Seven Shows from Seventy-Two is a 14-disc box set containing 7 complete shows from 31 Oct - 20 Nov 1972, i.e. the Close to the Edge tour with Anderson, Squire, Howe, White and Wakeman.
The box also features extensive new art by Roger Dean. The YesWorld page about the release has the full story of the recordings and the work to restore them, but in short these are 2 tape, 16-track recordings done for what would become Yessongs, and indeed some of these were used for some of the material on Yessongs.
The shows are: 31 Oct Toronto; 1 Nov Ottawa; 11 Nov Durham, NC; 12 Nov Greensboro, NC; 14 Nov Athens, GA; 15 Nov Knoxville, TN; and 20 Nov New York, NY.

Ich hoffe, dass weitere gute Livemitschnitte von den nachfolgenden Tourneen kommen.
Ausgerechnet 1972 ist ja gut mit der YESSONGS abgedeckt.

Die Box hätte Trough the Years gehen müssen, vorallen die Relayer & die Tales show, das wär*s doch gewesen!!!

Ich werde mir dann den Mix aus verschiedenen Mitschnitten holen, also die einfache
Doppel-CD. Ob dann noch die Doppel-LP dazu kommt hängt von der Qualität ab.
Offensichtlich wird es dann wohl keine Yessongs-Überarbeitung geben.

Nachdem ich nun mal genau nachgelesen habe, mit wieviel Sorgfalt die originalen Bänder auf analogem Equipment quasi restauriert und neu gemischt wurden (Producer Brian Kehew: "It is ALL from analog tapes, mixed without ProTools or computers of any kind, on a vintage 1970s mixing desk – by hand. This is my preferred way to work, and it tends to sound appropriate for classic music of the era."), werde ich mir die 14CD-Box holen. "Yessongs" wurde ja massiv im Studio nachgebessert. Hier sind die ECHTEN Shows, die für Yessongs verwendet wurden. Ich bin sehr gespannt. Das wird die von mir am freudigsten erwartete Yes-Veröffentlichung seit vielen Jahren. :jc_doubleup:

@ hans - In freudiger Erwartung bin ich auch, es wird wirklich spannend wie sich das Endresultat anhört.
Ich hatte mich immer gewundert, warum es keine Yessongs-Überarbeitung auf den Markt kommt.
