Die Stimme von Benoit David passte doch eigentlich sehr gut zu dem Material.

Ist wieder mal eine bösartige Vermutung von mir, aber ich vermute, man will ihm keine Tantiemen gönnen.

Seine Backing-Vocals bleiben laut Mitteilung alle drauf. Er ist ja auch Co-Komponist von "Into the Storm", also wachsen
wohl auch ein paar Pfund in seine Tasche. Die Verkaufszahlen werden sich im Rahmen halten, ein paar Sammler werden
hoffen eine Rarität im Regal zu haben.

Es ist einfach Trevor Horns Song, den er schon mehrfach vorher veröffentlicht bzw. eingespielt hat. Als Buggles-Komposition (veröffentlicht 2010 als Bonus-Song(s) auf dem Re-release des Album "Adventures in Modern Recording von 1981), als YESSong bei den Drama Sessions (Bootleg) und live (auf "The Word is live") und auf dem Geoff Downes Soloalbum "Geoffrey Downes and the New Dance Orchestra - The Collection" von 2003. Sich da den Wunsch zu erfüllen, noch einmal YESSänger auf einem Album des Drama Line-Ups zu sein, mag vielleicht auch was ganz Persönliches sein. Und leisten kann er es sich ja. Ich bin YESFan und finde es gut, wenn neue YESMusik veröffentlicht wird - spätere Enttäuschung natürlich nicht ausgeschlossen. Aber, wir bekommen wieder einen unveröffentlichten YESSong zu hören, dazu noch mit Chris Squire am Bass. Allein das ist doch schon ein wenig Vorfreude wert, oder?
Wer Lust hat, kann ja mal ein bisschen in die diversen Trevor Horn - Versionen reinhören.

Mächtig Wirbel macht zur Zeit Trevor Horns Äußerung über Benoît David:

“Well the band suggested it. Because Benoit is French-Canadian, English wasn’t his native language. And Yes lyrics are difficult enough to understand if you’re English in the first place! So it was kind of tricky for him to understand the nuances of what he was singing. And that took up time, really, on that record. Chris (Squire) and Alan (White) would be done in fifteen minutes, y’know? But they spent a long time with Benoit because of his language difficulties.

Benoîts ehemaliger Bandkollege und Chef von Mystery:

I remember like if it was yesterday, driving my Bike to a friend’s house a few miles from Home, he had invited me to his house to make me listen to a new band he had just discovered. I must have been about 12 and the year was 1979. The band was YES and the album was the Yes Album, my friend played the whole album and I became an instant fan. Rode back home and I remember telling my father who introduced me to music about this band I had just discovered.
Grew up in the French Canadian province Quebec, on the Northshore of Montreal, a suburb mainly French, going to French school, but listening to English radio station CHOM FM, the Spirit of Rock they call it, the station that opened the doors for many famous rock band in America.
A few years later 1983, a record that would change my vison of music forever, YES – 90125, 2 years before I would formed my band Mystery. With this album, I would discover and instantly became a fan of Producer Trevor Horn. Not knowing at the time that many years later the Mystery singer would become the YES singer for an album marking the return of Trevor Horne as the Producer.
I did buy all the yes albums on vinyl at the time, and later bought the whole collection again on CD. Went to see yes on 4 occasions and also saw the union tour and GTR tour. Also discovered and met Benoit David for the first time going to see a yes tribute band in Montreal.
Today I read this statement from Mr. Horn about Benoit David: “Because Benoit is French-Canadian, English wasn’t his native language. And Yes lyrics are difficult enough to understand if you’re English in the first place. So it was kind of tricky for him to understand the nuances of what he was singing. “
I remember very well the Union tour, a stage in the center of the arena, filled with 20 000 crazy yes fans, A long standing ovation before the show had even started, probably 90% of this crowd, wearing YES t-shirts, screaming and welcoming their heroes like gods, were French Canadians. Spending their hard earned money on Yes goodies, growing up listening to CHOM FM, the only station that would play Yes Music in Montreal.
Saying Benoit did not really understand the nuances of what he was singing is like saying that all the non-English native language Yes fans are not able to understand the nuances of YES lyrics and haven’t been able to understand for years but kept supporting the band to this day even if they did not understand the real meaning of the words.
Lets hope Mr. Horn that my English is not good enough for me to understand the nuances of your statement and if it is the case, I apologize for this post.
From a French Canadian fan. Friend with the French Canadian Yes singer, living in the French Canadian province of Quebec, where you also sold thousands of single of Video Killed the Radio Stars, a song that we probably did not understand the nuances of what you were singing.

Hast Du sie Dir nicht in London gekauft? Ich finde die Überarbeitung ist gut geworden.

Ich bin ja nun wirklich kein Fan der letzten Yesalben, aber diese Bemerkung von Horn ist schon ziemlich dämlich Wieviele fremdsprachige Opernsänger gibt es, die ständig Opern von Puccini oder Wagner im Original singen, ohne den Text wortwörtlich zu verstehen.

So eine "Rechtfertigung" hat Horn doch nicht nötig und er schadet sich dadurch nur selbst. Er ist einer der erfolgreichsten Produzenten und kann noch auf anspruchsvolle Musik verweisen, daneben hat er noch etliche Hits geschrieben oder produziert. Michel St-Pere hat angemessen reagiert.

Ich nehme das eher als dumpe Beleidigung wahr. In Horn's Alter sollte man sich artikulieren können (zumal er's ja in Englisch machen durfte ) und ich nehme die Äußerung daher als pure Absicht. Ich finde, dass sich alle Yes-Musiker, egal welchem Lager sie angehören, inzwischen nur noch bescheuert aufführen. Das führt dazu, dass ich von den aktuellen Eskapaden gar nichts mehr hören oder sehen will, sondern die Leute und ihre Musik dort lasse, wo ich sie mag, mich also mit den Aufnahmen von damals "begnüge" und ich mich daran erfreue, statt mich über schlechte Darbietungen und unangemessenes Verhalten zu ärgern...
